RealTravel Accelerates Sunburst Vacations Word-of-Mouth Marketing ...
RealTravel(TM), (http://realtravel.com), a travel blogging and information web site and Sunburst Vacations, (http://www.sunburstvacations.com/), a provider of travel packages for destinations throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Islands of the Bahamas, and Bermuda, today announced a partnership to increase Sunburt's word-of-mouth marketing while providing travelers the opportunity to plan, book, capture and share their travels using their combined offerings. A survey by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) reported that 43% of Americans cite friends and family as a source for information about places to visit or about flights, hotels or rental cars. Similarly, a Harris interactive poll revealed that 44% of consumers cite family, friends and co-workers as a top source for recommendations about travel purchases.
Gas-saving getaways
Herewith, some getaways that minimize driving -- or avoid it altogether. For planning purposes, we've added in $200 per day for dining for a couple (romantic dinners aren't cheap), $100 per day for a family of four heading to a family destination, $150 per day if the family is going urban. Child pornography is increasingly rearing its ugly head in The Bahamas, according to Minister of Social Services and Community Development, Melanie Griffin.Mrs Griffin, who spoke on the issue in the House of Assembly Thursday, told parents not only to monitor their children's movements but also to get to know the people with whom they associate.
"Parents also need to warn their children about having their pictures taken by others," she said. "What may seem to be an innocent, harmless act may be distorted and altered for evil and illegal purposes."
She added, "Particularly, when somebody wants your children, when they go to any function, to take off their clothes and take photos, a flag should go up immediately."
In giving further tips, Mrs Griffin said parents should not place computers in their children's bedroom but rather in a general area in the home, accessible to all.

Police blotterRIVIERA BEACH — The guardians of a 6-year-old girl allowed a sex offender to take the child to the store, but the girl's mother called police at 11:45 p.m. Monday when the man didn't return for hours, Riviera Beach police said. Delray Beach police caught up to Gary Lee Phillips, 39, as he was pulling into the driveway of his home with the girl at 1 a.m. Tuesday. The two had been together for five hours. Phillips was charged with interfering with child custody and resisting an officer with violence. He previously was convicted of lewd and lascivious exhibition on someone under the age of 16. Anyone with information about Phillips is asked to call Detective Sgt. Pat Galligan at (561) 882-3514, Ext. 15, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS(8477).

Interval supports CTO education foundation
Interval International, a vacation exchange company, and resorts affiliated with its exchange network, announced their continued financial support of Caribbean tourism education with a $20,000 donation to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Education Foundation.The check was presented by David Callaghan, vice president resort sales and service, Interval International, to Hon. Pamela C. Richards, CTO Chairman and Commissioner of Tourism for the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Jacqueline Johnson, CTC, chairman of the CTO Foundation, as part of Caribbean Week in New York City.
"This is the seventh year Interval International and its resort affiliates have made a donation to the CTO Foundation, an organization that has done so much to educate Caribbean-based students in the hospitality and tourism professions," said Callaghan.
Swimming with dolphins was a memorable experience
I'm proud of several things about my spring break this year. I spent most of my time in the Bahamas without getting badly burned.
