bahamas vacation home rentalsBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationClose calls put public at riskAcross the country, cargo planes have crashed on golf courses, by an electric plant, in a lake at the foot of high-rise condos, in driveways and in the middle of bustling residential communities. On a freezing, snowy Wednesday three weeks before Christmas 2002, a 1974 Cessna 210L came down on a northern Arkansas neighborhood just before dinnertime. "I ran outside, and pieces of airplane were falling down all around the house,'' said Danny Saunier, a fiberglass assembler who was sitting in his living room when he heard the boom. "The entire wing fell into a tree in my neighbor's backyard, maybe 50 feet from me. ... You could smell the airline fuel all over. The pilot's headset, it was right beside my house.'' Somehow, a larger tragedy was averted that day in Harrison, about 140 miles upstate from Little Rock, when the pilot crashed while carrying canceled checks and other bank documents for Orlando, Fla.-based Flight Express Inc.

"The event will feature the top three finishers of the New Year's Day parade on Bay Street, which are The Valley Boys, One Family and the Saxons. They will compete against a Grand Bahama all-star group and they will be vying for a 90,000 dollar cash prize," Mr Adderley said. He added that last year, in its pilot run, the event attracted over 20,000 people and this year more are expected.
No, we are not giving away cruises to Bermuda! As we said last week, some idiot has glomped (a Maine word, not found in any dictionary) onto our Web site, which is wiscassetnewspaper.maine.com, and is sending out notices that say, "Congratulations, you just won a cruise to the Bahamas, plus $$1,000 in travel cash. Call now, 866-704-8454."
As with 99 percent of these bogus messages, somebody is trying to take advantage of unsuspecting folks. A call from the newspaper's phone number ends in dead silence, while a call from a cell phone nets a recording that says, "Welcome to the conference center' please enter your pass code, this entry code is invalid, call your conference leader for assistance…" and on and on.
Any computer-savvy person who would like to disrupt this process of sending out messages from our Web site is asked to contact the newspaper immediately (882-6355).
Our list of worst film sequels everLife is a series of firsts -- first love, first job, first car, first therapist, first eating disorder, first sex-manual photos shot strictly for instructional purposes. But the second? The third? The fourth? In terms of films, although not coffee-table sex guides, it becomes harder and harder to recapture the elusive X factor that made the original so very special. And by the fifth-go-round, you've got a straight-to-DVD starring Kari Wuhrer. Not that Hollywood stops trying. And to be fair to the lovely Ms. Wuhrer, whose aforementioned sequel work was in Hellraiser: Deader, it's not like the original left you wanting more. The same could be said, I suppose, of today's theatrical releases of the third The Fast and the Furious instalment (sans Vin Diesel or Paul Walker) and the second Garfield flick (again starring the voice of Bill Murray).
