Asking business owners to stand firm

Minister of Energy and the Environment Marcus Bethel has called on private businesses to continue partnering with the government on the controversial Downtown Redevelopment project.

It was back in April 2004 that Prime Minister Perry Christie first announced that his government, through The Hotel Corporation of The Bahamas, had contracted EDAW (one of the world's leading land-based planning and design firms,) to embark on the project that would lead to an overhaul of Bay Street as well as the relocation of the city's port to a south-western section of the island.

Yesterday, Minister Bethel warned that the success of the re-development project depends on the bond shared between the public and private sector. The top government official made his comments while he was addressing dozens of Bay Street business owners and investors at British Colonial Hilton Nassau.

HomeNYC Creates Fantasy World "in the Snow" for IZOD

Mike Kelly, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Phillips-Van Heusen, IZOD's parent company, teams with HomeNYC Creative Director, Ben Orisich to create an IZOD fantasy world theatrical commercial to generate awareness and excitement for IZOD clothing titled "IZOD in the Snow".

New York, New York (PRWEB) November 19, 2006 -- Ben Orisich, Creative Director at SoHo New York-based design and production studio, HomeNYC, directs his third commercial for IZOD, an adventure, lifestyle clothing brand. Mike Kelly and Orisich continue their successful relationship working on a series of lifestyle commercials for IZOD. Lawyer says deport Anna Nicole Smith

Anna Nicole Smith should be stripped of her permanent residency status and asked to leave The Bahamas, a local lawyer suggested yesterday.

Fayne Thompson, who believes Ms Smith should be declared persona non grata in The Bahamas, has also called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the former playmate's permanent residency application, a call which was supported yesterday by Progressive Liberal Party Senator Philip Galanis.

"Clearly, in the Department of Immigration are documents which weren't complete. That is by the admission of all parties. There has been no dispute about that fact. And if that is in fact the case, due diligence has not been done in processing the application part," Mr Thompson said Sunday on Island FM's "Parliament Street" radio talk show.

Major health development

Sixteen of the nation's leading organizations have joined forces to form the National Coalition for Health Care Reform (NCHCR) to discuss, analyze and provide input to the government's proposed National Health Insurance (NHI) Plan.

The coalition is a partnership of Bahamian citizens representing all sectors of society who are committed to improving health care services that truly incorporate the elements of the right of choice and equal access to health care services for all residents in The Bahamas.

With the belief that Bahamian residents should have full and fair access to the best available health services, the group is hoping to work with government to establish a national health insurance plan that is financially viable and sustainable.

The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce is one of the 16 guilds under the NCHCR umbrella.

That Nasty Crop

Today that nasty crop is being harvested in this rotten place is that kind of mean misery spot on God's green earth that doubles as a paradise for the rich and the famous.

This same place is no paradise for that gaggle of poor, suffering black people who are dumb enough, on the bottom enough and hungry enough to either peddle drugs or use them. Incidentally, some of these people with the addled minds some times turn on each other and thereafter these are the types who vie to see who will make either the morning or evening news.

Some of them never make the news.

These are the good riddance types whose departure hence this bitter-sweet place is some times seen in terms of finally, that's that.

Some husbands say 'that's that' when their wives depart.

Some waves say ditto and where you put me.
