The theme for this conference is "Cooperation innovation, rejuvenation: Creating a brand-new Caribbean." Before officially declaring the event open, the prime minister conveyed his concern about the new U.S. initiative which is expected to come into effect on January 8, 2007.
Baptist Women unite in prayerBaptist church women across the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and the South West Pacific are joining hearts and voices for one day of prayer.Baptist Women's World Day of Prayer was started in 1948 and is held every year by the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Women's Department on the first Monday in November. The event will be held in all Baptist churches of the Grand Bahama district on Monday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. under the theme: "Seeing with new eyes." Valurine Bain-Pinder, BWA President for the Grand Bahama district revealed that women throughout the seven continental unions are coming on one accord. In the Caribbean, the focus is being placed on abused children, their abusers, violence against women, those guilty of such violence, AIDS, the HIV epidemic throughout the islands and the rest of the world, and the victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Film Festival, Dec. 7-10.Sean Connery will present Cage with the kudo Dec. 8 at the Atlantis Theater at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort. A selection of Cage's films will screen during fest, including "Face/Off," "Adaptation" and "Wild at Heart." Fest's juried competition categories include the Spirit of Freedom (with both narrative and documentary sections) and the New Visions section. Additional film programs include Panorama World Cinema, Special Screenings, Caribbean Spotlight and a component added this year, East Meets West, which will present films from Eastern Europe, India, East Asia and the Pacific Islands.
