Atlantis mourns 'Butch'

Time seemed to have stopped in the Atlantis Crown Ballroom as friends and family members from around The Bahamas and the world gathered to pay tribute to the life of international developer Howard Kerzner.

Grief-stricken family and friends of 'Butch', as he was affectionately called, could not hide their pain as they mourned the loss of "the face of the future."

The 42-year-old hotel and resort tycoon was killed, along with three others, on October 11 when the Robinson 44 helicopter in which they were travelling crashed into a building on The Dominican Republic's north coast.

Prime Minister Perry Christie said he now has to share in the unexpected and untimely end of a man who was widely loved and regarded as a beacon of the future. "Such is the loss of Howard 'Butch' Kerzner, gone too soon," he sombrely said.

One Fine Day

Home shows feature gutters, cabinets and kitchen sinks while bridal shows offer the latest in invitations, multi-tiered cakes and gowns and tuxedoes. So what will you find at The Fine Living & Gift Expo being held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa?

Well, there will be beautiful things and glamorous people, and a grand prize give-away to the tropical luxury resort, Atlantis, in Paradise Island, Bahamas. But don't be fooled by the glittery jewelry, high fashion, martinis and massages, and appearance by opera star Brian Cheney.

This fine living gig will offer something for everybody.

"Fine living has absolutely nothing to do with economic level or ability," says Robyn Wolman, president of R&L Productions, creator of the show. "It's not about money at all.

TBS Truckers sweep Del Sol for NPSA title

After a disheartening finish to last year's New Providence Softball Association (NPSA) Championship series in which they blew a 3-1 series lead, the TBS Truckers are back in the Bahamas Softball Federation's (BSF) round robin tournament, and they accomplished that feat in the most impressive of fashions.

They clinched their second NPSA title in the past three years with an unbelievable comeback victory against the Del Sol Arawaks in Game Three Saturday afternoon at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, to sweep the best-of-five championship series three games to none.

The Truckers came all the way back from an 8-0 deficit to post a 17-9 stomping of the Arawaks in Game Three, and will now advance to the BSF round robin tournament. They trailed 9-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning on Saturday, but erupted for a whopping 13 runs on seven hits, and the Arawaks couldn't recover.
