Masilotti, developer called friends, not dealers

As multimillionaire developer Bruce Rendina battles deadly brain cancer, his friends and family hold vigil at his Breakers West sickbed.

Yet one close friend is missing, the person he most wants to see: Tony Masilotti. For now, at least, that visit is out of the question.

Anna Nicole's Son -- Extreme Rx

Daniel Smith had a stunning combination of seven drugs, including multiple anti-depressants and cold medicines, in his system when he died on Sept. 10 in the Bahamas, according to toxicology reports, four more than had been previously reported. Dr. Cyril Wecht confirmed the reports Wednesday on Court TV's "Catherine Crier Live" after he was confronted with the new information by reporter Michel Bryant. According to Wecht, the son of Anna Nicole Smith had the antidepressant Amitriptyline as well as two over-the-counter cold medications in his body along with the methadone, Lexapro, and Zoloft that had previously been found. Another source tells People that a mild over-the-counter sedative was also present in his body. Wecht thinks that the newly discovered medications are "insignificant and they don't mean a thing.

Police beef up presence in anticipation of busy Christmas holiday ...

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has heightened its presence in prime shopping areas in an effort to lower the growing number of holiday-shopping-related robberies.

While police press liaison officer Inspector Walter Evans could not say yesterday exactly how many robberies occurred over the holiday shopping season

last year, he admitted that there were "a lot." And this year police have gotten an early start on trying to bring those numbers down, he said. "During this holiday season we are trying to cut down the number of robberies not only at the mall, but at shopping places on the whole," Inspector Evans told

The Nassau Guardian yesterday. "There are quite a bit of outward signs of police protection around (and) you can easily see some...but there are still some invisible signs of police protection."

As shopping increases after the Thanksgiving season and into December, so will the number of police in strategic areas, Inspector Evans explained.

Washington (Perhaps Unwittingly) Unleashes Another Onslaught on an ...

Just as the predecessor Clinton administration dealt a mortal blow to the Caribbean banana sector in exchange for a hefty donation from the then head of the Chiquita Corp., Karl Linder. President Bush's initiative – perhaps inadvertently – similarly could bring great woe upon the Caribbean tourism industry Costly U.S. travel initiative will require Caribbean-bound U.S. tourists traveling by air to carry passports The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will snuff out “impulse tourism" as barely 17% of U.S citizens possess passports New measures will prove costly and counter-productive The WHTI will foster crime and illicit money laundering throughout the Caribbean, stimulate drug trafficking, and encourage illegal immigration, thus undermining important regional interests and objectives

The Clinton administration, fought to strip away the preferential benefits provided by the Lomé agreement to small-scale banana producers in the English-speaking Caribbean.

What is Bahamian culture?

If you were to ask a child what Bahamian culture is, you'll most likely hear 'Junkanoo' as an answer. Many of our children do not know or simply don't understand just what our culture is or its origin. They are taught the basic of our culture but have no idea just how it came about, what has influenced it, or just how deeply it affects us as a people.

I have also discovered, from speaking to children that they have not been exposed to other cultures, even though The Bahamas has become a multicultural society through migration and immigration. Our country can boast that it is comprised of over forty nationalities and just over twenty religions, including a hundred different denominations, but even with this cultural mix, many of our children know little about them.

And so today, I would like to congratulate The King's College School on its successful first annual Cultural Awareness week.
