Regular guests of One&Only Ocean Club, Bahamas may see some familiar faces and places when the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, hits cinema screens on November 17, 2006.

Bahamas approves resort development financed by Woods, Els

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) -Tiger Woods and Ernie Els gained approval Thursday from Bahamian officials for a luxury resort they're helping finance along with a group led by a British billionaire.

The $1.3 billion private residential community, planned for an exclusive corner of New Providence island, will include an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Els, Woods said in a statement. It will be called the Albany Golf & Beach Club.

"With Albany, I look forward to spending more time in the Bahamas and playing Ernie on our new golf course,'' Woods said. "We plan to make Albany very special.''

The government and representatives of the Tavistock Group, a holding company managed by British billionaire and Bahamian resident Joseph Lewis, signed the deal on Thursday allowing construction to go forward after two years of negotiations and environmental impact studies.

China is still a MOT target

The Ministry of Tourism will continue to focus on mainland Chinese travelers although any benefits to the local tourism industry is expected to be felt over the long-term.

"We realized that China is becoming a major economic powerhouse and decided to actively pursue the promotion of our many tourist attractions," said MOT's deputy director-general Ellison "Tommy" Thompson. Thompson, who was quoted in a Chinese daily, also said easy access between The Bahama Islands and unique tourist attractions should help to attract visitors from China.

Thompson also pointed out how successful trade relations with China, but particularly Beijing, has opened the door to access that market, noting that The Bahamas was given approved destination status in February 2005, which made it easier for Chinese travelers to come to The Bahamas.
