old bahama channelBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationPolice report another firearm seizureGrand Bahama police have reported yet another firearm seizure from the island's streets resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old male for possession of the gun and suspected illegal narcotics.According to reports, two central detective unit officers on a routine mobile patrol in the Garden Villas area at 3:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, spotted a man sitting in a chair in front of a yard on Murchison Drive acting suspiciously. Police say that as a result, the officers approached the man, identified themselves and told him of their suspicions. Reports state that during a subsequent search of the man, officers discovered a black and chrome King Cobra .357 revolver loaded with four .357 bullets, which they seized from his waistband. Police say that along with the firearm and ammunition, the officers found 11 foil packets containing what they suspected as Indian hemp tucked in his jacket pocket.

Bread of Life needs Thanksgiving help The Bread of Life Mission needs help this Thanksgiving. All donations are tax deductible; the Bread of Life Mission is a non-profit organization. The mission needs a variety of food items to produce a good Thanksgiving for those in need. Gas cards are also welcome, because they enable volunteers to deliver food to shut-ins.
Coast Guard Goes to Greater LengthsKey West, home to tons of military personnel and equipment, greeted another of its newly converted U.S. Coast Guard cutters, the Monhegan.The converted 123-foot patrol boat, which was originally a 110-foot patrol boat, returned to Key West following a year and half of alterations in Louisiana and Georgia boat yards. The Monhegan "will be permanently stationed here now," U.S. Coast Guard Sector Key West spokesman Mike Bell said. The Monhegan is the last of seven other 123-foot patrol boats in the Key West Coast Guard fleet to go through the conversion program. They are the only such converted boats in the Guard. Why are they all stationed in Key West? It's simple, Bell says. "They seemed to be the best fit for the area," he said.
Billfish tourney dates setThe dates for the 24th Annual Treasure Cay Billfish Tournament have been set for next year, when over 250 anglers and guests from all over the world are expected to attend. The tournament dates are June 10-15, 2007, and it will be hosted by the Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina in Abaco. The four-day tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championships, will encompass the fishing competition, social parties and various dinners. Multiple awards will be presented to participants for billfish, tuna, dolphin and wahoo captures. The point standings will be verified by participants' digital or video cameras, which are required to have the ability to provide an image that can verify the time and date that each photo was taken. The highly anticipated tournament is renowned from year to year for its great food and camaraderie, with social events that families can enjoy.
